Defrost a freezer fast!

How to defrost a chest freezer quickly:

 What you will need:

  1.   Electric hair dryer (1875 watts is best).
      Wet/dry shop vacuum
      Bucket
      Insulated gloves
      Blankets

    1. Check the floor area around the freezer as there will probably be some meltwater dripping onto the floor. You don’t want anything nearby that could be damaged.
    2. Remove all the food from the freezer into picnic coolers, or wrap in blankets. Put into a cool place. (I usually do this in winter, so food can be put outdoors (careful about neighborhood animals).
    3. If the freezer has a drain hole, block it from inside, or prepare to manage the water draining out.
    4. Start the hair dryer and put inside the freezer and close it.
    5. In an hour or less, you should hear the ice chunks falling from the walls.
    6. Start removing the ice chunks into the bucket.
    7. Vacuum (or sponge & bucket) out the meltwater.
    8. Keep going until all ice and meltwater out of the freezer.
    9. Optional – wash down the inside of the freezer.
    10. Use the hair dryer again for about 15 min to help dry out the inside after cleaning.
    11. Restart the freezer and let it get cold before putting food back in.
    12. Elapsed time – about 2 hours.
